Malmsbury
nestled in a valley on the Calder Highway,
approx. 95 km North West of Melbourne,
has a population of approx 500.
Malmsbury originally developed as a service/resting place for diggers heading to the Goldfields.
Today the town reflects the history of those days back in the 1800's,
with old buildings still standing,
an old horse water trough,
Botanical Gardens, originally established in 1863.
Old Churches.
This town has Character plus... !!!!
You can almost see those tired diggers stopping to give their horses a drink...
before heading off to the local water hole for a beer,
You can see the wealthier diggers staying overnight at the local Inn....
(how I would luv to go back in time.. just to catch a 'glimpse" of them)
okay... back to reality
A bluestone Quarry contributed to the towns wealth,
along with discovery of gold in Malmsbury itself,
and today, many buildings, made from local quarried bluestone are still standing.

The old water trough, one of many throughout the region
The town has basic services to supply the local population.
However, the town becomes alive, particularly weekends and public holidays as it services the tourists.
The "tourists" shop for
Antiques,
they admire and purchase fine art.
They purchase freshly made, preservative free bread from the local bakery,
whilst enjoying fine coffee, cakes, wines and pastries.
Malmsbury is a peaceful, historical town,
small and quiet,
born in a valley, nearby the river....
(and i love it so)
